- We are seeking an outstanding and dynamic optometric research leader for the rare opportunity to build a world class optometric and vision research capacity at the University of Western Australia and Lions Eye Institute.

The primary goal of the Doctor of Optometry program and the new Chair in Optometry Research is to reduce preventable blindness within the community by enhancing the understanding of eye disease in a manner that can be translated into improved eyecare. The position will be accommodated at the Lions Eye Institute and collaborate with the Ian Constable Chair in Discovery and Translational Ophthalmic Science (UWA) and the Lions Curtin Professorial Chair in Big Ophthalmic Data (Curtin University).
About the opportunity
The Lions Eye Institute and University of Western Australia Chair in Optometry Research will build a world class optometric and vision research capacity at the University of Western Australia and Lions Eye Institute.
They will oversee a research strategy focused on the earlier detection and management of ocular disease and the development of innovations in the delivery of eye care, in order to reduce preventable blindness and increase the accessibility of eye health services.
This is a research position with leadership responsibilities within the research component within the Doctor of Optometry program. The position will require a senior academic research optometrist at Professorial level, with significant research experience a track research of successful competitive funding, doctoral supervisory experience, and an established track record in the field of optometry and visual science vision research.
