Under broad direction, the Library Officer (Research Information) is responsible for managing the Library’s multiple systems managing information related to research resources of the university. The role sits within the Digital, Access and Delivery (DAD) team which is one of six teams within the Library. The DAD team’s focus is the Library’s digital infrastructure supporting research, learning and teaching as well as the digital requirements of the Library. The Library Officer (Research Information) position is an integral part of our intention to expand the Library’s research support environment, and to drive engagement with the academic community.

The position will lead on the development, consolidation and administration of Flinders digital repositories with a remit to research and develop new and innovative services for the Library’s users. The position will contribute to promotion of services and systems to key stakeholders through advocacy concerning Library infrastructure for Open Research, Open Educational Resources and any other categories of materials that serve the needs of the Flinders’ community. The role has no direct reports.

Key Position Responsibilities

The Library Specialist (Research Information) will:

  • Lead the continued development, configuration, integration and management of the Library’s research information systems in line with established University policies
  • In collaboration with key stakeholders, develop and maintain effective client-focused workflows for Library research information systems, including creating and maintaining relevant documentation
  • Support and maintain structures and processes for monitoring data related to research outputs, environment and impact and provide information in appropriate format for senior colleagues across the institution.
  • Promote the uses and benefits of the Flinders’ Library research information systems through liaison with staff involved in teaching and research across the Colleges, and with any other stakeholders both internally and externally.
  • Develop effective working relationships with other areas of the University as relevant to these responsibilities and as required
  • Provide support across a broad range of Library applications and services, including the Library Management System, associated applications from vendors, repositories and internal communications applications.
  • Optimise discovery and access to resources through Library applications and external search engines.
  • Maintain current knowledge of developments in Library applications and relevant new technologies and providing advice and recommendations to Library management to directly inform a decision-making process for the review and adoption of technologies.
  • Undertake any other responsibilities in line with the level of the position as assigned by the Supervisor and/or the University.

Key Position Capabilities

  • Degree from a higher education institution or an equivalent combination of education and training or experience.
  • Demonstrated experience and back-end knowledge of information management systems across multiple platforms.
  • Understanding of how library systems contribute to the research lifecycle, including metadata schemas, persistent identifiers and other library services.
  • Demonstrated ability to liaise with stakeholders at different levels within an institution, and externally (eg: with vendors) to establish business requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical issues to non-technical staff within the Library and wider institution in written, verbal and interpersonal form.
  • Demonstrated well developed numeracy and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continual professional development, improvement, and learning.
  • Experience creating and using programs, scripts, tools, web-based authoring systems and APIs would be favourably looked upon.
