The School of Civil Engineering is one of the largest schools of its kind in Australia. Located in the state-of-the-art, $135 million Advanced Engineering Building, the School passionately delivers world-leading teaching, research, and service. We aspire to be the civil engineering school of choice for students, staff, industry, and the wider community in the fields of water, environmental, geotechnical, structural and transportation engineering.

About this Opportunity

We are seeking an inspirational and passionate individual for this exciting opportunity of Head of School, Civil Engineering. Reporting to the Executive Dean of the Faculty, the Head of School will provide strategic and operational leadership and oversight of the academic, research and administrative activities of the School, in collaboration with the senior leadership team.

You will be responsible for leading the development of the academic vision and student experience, work with colleagues and postgraduates to build a vibrant research culture - including attracting competitive research funding - and with external stakeholders, industry, government departments, and the wider community to develop and foster relationships with the School.

Our Ideal Candidate

Ideally, you will be an experienced and inspiring leader of world-class standing, with the capability to drive research and education excellence in an interdisciplinary context. You will have strong financial literacy/budget management, as well as managed infrastructure experience. You will be innovative, with demonstrated experience in developing, articulating, and sustaining a shared vision, facilitating the implementation of measurable outcomes. You will be an excellent communicator, with a strong ability to build and maintain relationships.

The Head of School will foster a culture of collegiality and develop and mentor staff to ensure the School's continued success, while promoting the School, Faculty and University at a national and international level.

What We Can Offer

The Head of School role is a full-time fixed term position for five (5) years at Academic Level E. Upon negotiation, a continuing Professorial Academic Level E position may be considered.
