The National Security College (NSC) is a joint venture between the ANU and the Australian Government and sits within Crawford School of Public Policy, College of Asia and the Pacific. The NSC conducts programs relating to national security policy including executive and professional development courses, policy engagement, postgraduate education and research.

The ANU College of Asia & the Pacific (CAP) leads intellectual engagement with the Asia-Pacific region through research, teaching and contributions to public debate, and seeks to set the international standard for scholarship concerning the region. CAP hosts the largest number of regional experts and specialist academic programs in the English-speaking world, and plays a vital role in informing public policy and Australia's intellectual engagement with the societies, cultures and economies of Asia and the Pacific.
The NSC is seeking to engage a small number of Academics of Practice at either Level C (Senior Fellow) or Level D (Associate Professor).
Academics of Practice promote the integration of academic scholarship with practical experience. We are seeking applications from distinguished professionals with non-traditional academic backgrounds to fill these roles on either a full or part time basis.
Academics of Practice teach courses, advise students, and collaborate in areas directly related to their expertise and experience, providing colleges and students with an understanding of the practical applications of a particular field of study.
These are highly selective appointments available to those who have successfully demonstrated high level specialist expertise in national security and government or business and have a knowledge base that matches in breadth and depth the academic expectations of the University.
Our Ideal Candidates
Our ideal candidates will bring extensive experience and distinctive knowledge and skills that otherwise would not be available to the NSC, in topics such as Australia’s national security interests, structures, laws and processes; resilience and preparedness; cyber security and critical technologies; geo-economics; critical infrastructure; Indo-Pacific security; intelligence; climate, environment and security; gender and security; health and security; migration, social cohesion and security; and counter-terrorism in an Australian context.
