Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a permanent Head of Programme for Midwifery (0.8 FTE) to join Te Kura Tapuhi Hauora, the School of Nursing, Midwifery, and Health Practice. This role will be responsible as a member of the School Executive/Management/Leadership team, providing advice and support to the School Director that aligns with the strategic objectives of the University's strategic plan.

Key responsibilities:

  • Oversee the curriculum development and operation of Midwifery programmes within the school
  • Provide leadership in setting the learning and teaching direction for Midwifery programmes in consultation with the School Director
  • Oversee undergraduate and postgraduate student experience within the Midwifery Programmes
  • In consultation with the School Director and the School Manager, plan and manage appropriate staffing levels
  • Working closely with the School Manager and School Director, maintain accountability for the financial and operational activities of the Midwifery Programmes including facilities management and health and safety in line with Victoria's policies and procedures Support and develop staff who report directly to the Head of Programme for Midwifery to achieve their potential
  • Effectively manage key stakeholder professional and strategic advisory relationships

You will be a motivated midwifery academic, with demonstrated experience in providing tertiary-level midwifery education and supporting professional learning

You will thrive in this role with an excellent manner with people, and ability to influence and manage conflict, strong attention to detail, and interpersonal skills. This role is busy, challenging, extremely rewarding and interesting for the individual with the right temperament.

The successful applicant will have completed a PhD qualification and be a registered Midwife with the Midwifery Council of New Zealand with at least five years of midwifery experience and a current practising certificate.

  • Registration with the Midwifery Council of New Zealand and at least five years midwifery experience
  • Current Practising certificate
  • A PhD in a relevant discipline
  • A demonstrated record of commitment to, and performance in quality tertiary teaching, research and academic leadership
  • Advocacy and promotion skills
  • Commitment to working collaboratively with colleagues
  • Evidence of ability to assist the University to meet its obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi
