Birmingham City University is proud to be a higher education institution of and for its city; reflecting Birmingham in all its diversity and dynamism. It draws 69% of its students from the West Midlands. And 54% of its students are from a BAME (Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic) background.

The University is currently looking to appoint two full members to its Board of Governors and three co-opted committee members to its Audit Committee, Finance Committee, and Human Resources Committee respectively. These are all voluntary and unremunerated positions, but with the potential to have a hugely positive impact on the development of this important institution, the people it serves, and the city it calls home.

The University is particularly keen to hear from candidates with a detailed understanding of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, Pensions, and/or Cybersecurity. However, individuals from a range of backgrounds and professional experience will be considered. Prior experience of Higher Education and/or Non-Executive roles is not essential.

Candidates should be excited by the Birmingham City University’s mission and purpose, and enthusiastic to play their part in furthering both.

Birmingham City University is committed to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, and is continually seeking to diversify its workforce. This also applies to its governance structures. The University wishes to attract a diverse range of talented individuals who will be comfortable bringing their whole self to these vital roles and will enrich the University’s decision making accordingly. We strongly encourage suitably qualified individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and lived experiences to apply.

Birmingham City University is being assisted in this appointment process by the executive search firm Society.

Applications should consist of:

  •  a concise covering letter (ideally no longer than two pages), addressing the criteria in the Person Specification;
  • an up-to-date curriculum vitae;
  • names and contact details of three referees (although referees will only be approached at the final stage of the process, and only with your express permission).

The deadline for receipt of applications is midday on Monday, 17 January 2022.
