Job description
The Joint Education Institute (JEI) is an ambitious project between King’s College London (King’s) and the Southern University of Science & Technology (SUSTech) to establish a world-class medical school in Shenzhen, China.  The purpose of the JEI is to develop innovative, world-class joint education programmes and to engage with high-tech and med-tech industry in southern China and Hong Kong to generate pedagogical and curriculum advances.
King’s is seeking to appoint three academics with experience of programme organisation and management to deliver teaching in the following areas: Biomedical Engineering; Pharmacology & Molecular Genetics; and Medicine.  The post-holders will live and work in Shenzhen, China and will act as Programme Leads on three new joint programmes being set up as part of the JEI:
•         MBBS Medicine: a six-year programme leading to GMC-recognised Primary Medical Qualification.
•         BSc Biomedical Science: a four-year programme aimed at equipping graduates for a career in scientific research or employment in industry or allied fields.
•         BEng Biomedical Engineering: a four-year programme designed to train the next generation of biomedical engineers working in research, industrial and service-delivery healthcare environments.
Successful candidates will spend 3-4 months at King’s (where possible) developing educational materials and methods before starting teaching duties on the SUSTech campus for a period of four years.   Appointments will be on the King’s Academic Education Pathway (AEP) that allows career progression to Professor based upon contribution to education and scholarship.  Staff on the AEP have an indicative 20% of time available to engage in research.
Candidates must have a PhD in the biosciences; outstanding educator skills at levels 4 – 7 in the biosciences, biomedical engineering or pre-clinical/translational medicine; and experience of module development and/or module/programme leadership.   A relevant qualification in higher education e.g. PGCAP is desirable.
We are particularly interested in candidates able to teach undergraduate biomedical engineering, pharmacology, medical genetics, and pre-clinical/translational medicine alongside making contributions to transferable skills training, but we are open to applications from all areas of the biomedical sciences. Candidates can specify an interest in one of the joint programmes listed above or can choose to be considered for any of the three posts.
Post holders will receive competitive remuneration packages and benefits, including accommodation in China and flights to and from the UK.
Fixed-term, full-time appointment including four-year secondment to China (s.t. review)
