Manchester Metropolitan University

Pro-Vice-Chancellor Research

Manchester Metropolitan is one of the largest universities in the UK, located at the heart of a vibrant and ambitious city. We trace our roots back to the early part of the nineteenth century, when institutions were established to deliver skills and education for local people, improving livelihoods and the economy. Today, we remain at the heart of this great global city, continuing to play our part in its community and economy, through our teaching, research and innovation, but with impact across the UK and partnerships that span the globe.

Our research environment is predicated on enabling the discovery and application of knowledge, generating high-quality, impactful research. We focus our research on areas of strength where we have global standing and the last five years have witnessed a transformation, as measured by growth in income, the volume and quality of outputs, and the significance and reach of our impact. We continue to use our strong financial position to invest in people and facilities, holding the bar high on appointments and developing our talent.

We are now seeking an exceptional new Pro-Vice-Chancellor Research. A key member of the Executive team, you will join us at a pivotal moment as we look to build on our achievements and extend our reach and reputation. You will lead the development of the next generation of our research strategy, ensuring a strong research and impact profile that moves us forward across all measures, and is recognised externally by government, key stakeholders and global partners. Engaging proactively across the institution, you will focus on sustaining and improving the quality of research; maximising and diversifying funding streams; and inspiring and facilitating the growth of cross-disciplinary discovery and impact. We are currently setting our ambition, strategy and objectives for the decade ahead, and you will play a critical role in building the University’s profile and reputation to help deliver our vision and ambitious agenda.

A strong strategic leader with the requisite academic profile to hold immediate credibility at this level, you will have experience of developing and maintaining an outstanding research environment. You will evidence well-honed influencing skills as well as the tenacity and organisational sensitivity to drive a continued step change in our research performance. You will promote innovation, maximise inter-disciplinary connections and pursue a range of opportunities and partnerships that extend our reach and enhance our reputation. A strategic thinker, with a high degree of integrity and excellent judgement, you will also have a genuine commitment to the mission and ethos of the University.
