Manchester Metropolitan University

Pro Vice-Chancellor Business Engagement and Partnerships

Manchester Metropolitan is one of the largest universities in the UK, located at the heart of a vibrant and ambitious city. We trace our roots back to the early part of the nineteenth century, when institutions were established to deliver skills and education for local people, improving livelihoods and the economy. Today, we remain at the heart of this great global city, continuing to play our part in its community and economy, through our teaching, research and innovation, but with impact across the UK and partnerships that span the globe.

The University is committed to creating a truly world-class learning environment. Our education strategy places student experience and student success at the heart of the institution, and we focus our research around areas of strength where we have global impact. We continue to use our strong financial position to invest in people, holding the bar high on appointments and developing talent.

As the University continues to innovate in pursuit of excellence, we are now seeking an exceptional Pro Vice-Chancellor Business Engagement and Partnerships. A brand-new role for the University, and a critical member of the Executive Team, you will develop and own a university-wide strategy for engaging and developing partnerships with external business, third sector and government organisations. You will also take a leading role in driving our work around Knowledge Exchange and Knowledge Transfer, working closely in partnership with businesses and other organisations to improve competitiveness, productivity and performance. We are currently developing an ambitious 2030 vision and strategy and partnership will be key to success. You will therefore play a critical role in building the University’s profile and reputation to help deliver our vision and ambitious agenda over the next decade.

The successful candidate will bring a proven track record of strategic management and leadership gained either in higher education or from sectors with strong intellectual capital. You will have substantial experience of working in a dispersed and complex organisational structure where authority is derived through influence and persuasion and possess the requisite communication and interpersonal skills to build social capital quickly across our academic and professional services communities. Experience of building an extensive regional, national and international network of sustainable and mutually beneficial partnerships will be critical, as will a mind-set of innovation and entrepreneurship, underpinned by strong commercial acumen. A strategic thinker, with a high degree of integrity and excellent judgement, you will also have a genuine commitment to the mission and ethos of the University.
