About the role

An opportunity has arisen to work within the Finance and Contracts team, supporting the Finance Managers with the financial administration of programmes within the Wessex Institute.  You will be responsible for financial administration of Global Health Research portfolio of projects. You will initially be reviewing projects’ financial reconciliation statements ensuring they adhere to funders’ financial regulations, carry out contract variations as well as manage project payments.  There will be an opportunity to get involved with other duties as required.  You will provide accountancy support and general financial advice to both internal and external stakeholders.   

 You will be educated to an A level standard, have a minimum of AAT qualification and have extensive experience in a finance role. You will be analytical and self-motivated individual who is able to prioritise their own workload and use initiative to adapt and refine working practices. 

 You will have strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills, be well-organised with the ability to multi-task and to work well across the Wessex Institute. You will be a self-starter and enjoy the challenge of making things happen in a fast-moving environment.

 Who is Wessex Institute?

Wessex Institute is home to the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Evaluation, Trials and Studies Coordinating Centre (NETSCC), and is responsible for managing around £150m of new research funding each year, with an active portfolio of around £1bn. Funded by the Department of Health and Social Care, NETSCC manages six national and international research funding programmes on behalf of the NIHR. The NETSCC contract is the largest enterprise contract held by the University of Southampton and is administered by the Wessex Institute.
