Campus – Lanarkshire (with travel to other campuses as required)         

The School of Health and Life Sciences is seeking to recruit an experienced and highly organised Technical Manager on a fixed term basis for 12 months to lead the School’s Technical Team which comprises a team of 17 individuals supporting a wide range of activity across sport and exercise, life sciences, midwifery, nursing and paramedic science. 

In the role as Technical Manager, you will be responsible for providing proven expert guidance and specialist expertise with a laboratory or clinical skills environment. The role holder will lead and manage the Health & Life Sciences Technical Team to successfully deliver results in support of learning, teaching, research, and enterprise activity in the School. This will include prepare proposals/recommendations on the future requirements within the School regarding general/specific equipment, apparatus and fittings, space etc., ensuring the general maintenance/security of facilities, laboratories and equipment, as well as ensuring the Team operates effectively within any budget constraints, maintaining accurate financial records, where appropriate. 

The successful candidate should be educated to degree level in a discipline relevant to the role, or equivalent, with experience of working within a Laboratory or Clinical Skills Education environment. Experience of contributing to the development and implementation of efficient and effective working practices, leading a diverse and complex team and the provision and implementing Health and Safety best practice are all essential for this fixed term role.  

You will have well-developed communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage with staff and students on all levels.  you will possess have a flexible approach to problem solving with the ability to ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines; using personal initiative and judgement where required 

This post will be based at the Lanarkshire campus however, you will be required to work at any UWS campus or location from time to time to meet needs of the business.
