The Macquarie Law School is undergoing an exciting period of development and investment. With a focus on a renewed research agenda, and a stunning new law building for imminent construction, we are seeking applications from outstanding law academics to contribute to the teaching, research and engagement programmes in the School. We have current openings for academics at different career levels and are interested in hearing from talented individuals over a broad spectrum of discipline areas, including corporate and commercial law, health law, torts, criminal law, public and administrative law.

Macquarie Law School was established in 1972 and has a rich history in legal education, scholarship, and industry and community engagement. We pioneered the interdisciplinary study of law, designed to foster a sound understanding of legal doctrine as well as an awareness of the role of law in society and a sense of social responsibility.

About The roles:

Macquarie Law School is seeking to appoint outstanding law academics who have strong research and teaching records.

It is expected that the appointees will:

  • Teach and coordinate, at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Actively seek funding for, and contribute to, the research activities of Macquarie Law School (including interdisciplinary research as appropriate)
  • Contribute to engagement activities on behalf of Macquarie University and Macquarie Law School
  • Given current Australian Government COVID-19 border restrictions, applications for this position are only being accepted from Australian citizens or permanent residents or people currently residing in Australia with full working rights

Salary Package:

Annual Full-time Base salary for the level of appointment, plus 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading

  • Lecturer, Level B, from $108,111 - $127,913 p.a.
  • Senior Lecturer, Level C, from $132,004 - $151,806 p.a.
  • Associate Professor, Level D, from $158,533 - $174,378 p.a.
  • Professor, Level E, from $194,355 - $203,543 p.a.

Selection Criteria for Lecturer (Level B) Applicants:

  • PhD in a relevant field of law
  • Demonstrated experience in quality research/scholarship, which may be evidenced by publications and/or success in attracting research support
  • Demonstrated success in teaching law at undergraduate and postgraduate level including the ability to develop scholarly and innovative approaches to teaching and learning
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise higher degree research students
  • Record of contributing, or capacity to contribute, to administration in a University or professional setting and to interact within these settings
  • Record of enhancing, or capacity to enhance, the University's reputation through engagement with relevant external stakeholders

Selection Criteria for Senior Lecturer (Level C) Applicants:

  • PhD in a relevant field of Law
  • Research leadership in a discipline of law, demonstrating research quality and impact
  • Excellent track record of research publications, including publications in quality legal journals
  • Demonstrated ability to secure research funding
  • Demonstrated experience in effective undergraduate and postgraduate teaching including ability to develop and lead scholarly and innovative approaches to teaching and learning
  • Strong record of PhD supervision
  • Record of enhancing the University's reputation through engagement with relevant external stakeholders including legal professionals
  • Record of contributing, or capacity to contribute, to administration in a University or a professional setting and to interact meaningfully within these settings

Selection Criteria for Associate Professor (Level D) Applicants:

  • PhD in a relevant field of Law
  • Demonstrated leadership and international recognition in research of a particular legal field of expertise
  • Outstanding track record of research publications, including publications in quality legal journals, and research impact
  • Demonstrated record of securing external research funding
  • Extensive record of successful PhD supervision
  • Demonstrated teaching and leadership in core areas of the postgraduate and undergraduate legal programs
  • Record of enhancing the University's reputation through engagement and fostering relationships with relevant external stakeholders including legal and justice professionals, both internationally and nationally
  • Demonstrated interest in cross-disciplinary research collaboration

Selection Criteria for Professor (Level E) Applicants:

  • PhD in a relevant field of Law
  • Demonstrated research leadership at an international level in a particular legal field of expertise
  • Outstanding track record of research publications, including publications in quality legal journals, and research impact
  • Demonstrated record of securing external research funding
  • Extensive record of successful PhD supervision
  • Demonstrated teaching and leadership, including curriculum development and innovation in teaching, in core areas of postgraduate and undergraduate legal programs
  • Exceptional record of engagement with industry, government or community and fostering relationships with relevant external stakeholders including legal and justice professionals, both internationally and nationally
  • Demonstrated leadership and service contributions in a University environment, such as leading cross-disciplinary research projects, active contribution to University strategy and business, significant contributions of mentoring and development
