Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and independent candidate for the post of research assistant in the Plant Ecology, Evolution and Biogeography lab at the National University of Singapore (NUS). Successful candidate will help run the molecular lab and will have opportunities to be involved in or co-lead various metabarcoding and genomics projects. The position is for an initial period of one year with multiple opportunities for renewal.

The main responsibilities of the position include

  1. Assist the PI as lab safety lead and manager
  2. Assist with lab procurements 
  3. Lead / assist with various molecular-based projects

Candidate will gain experience in the following areas:

  1. Project planning and execution
  2. DNA extraction / sequencing library preparation
  3. Basic bioinformatic and data analysis of metabarcoding / genomic datasets
  4. Botanical field sampling and sample preservation techniques (optional)

Qualifications / Discipline:

  • Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences

Skills:

  • Experience with basic molecular biology techniques
  • Experience with basic bioinformatics
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills 
  • Ability to work independently

Experience:  

  • Research experience preferred (e.g., final year project, internships or undergraduate research programmes)
