Researcher within Distributed Data Processing and System Implementation for IoT

About the position

We have a vacancy for a Researcher position relevant to Distributed Data Processing and System Implementation for IoT at the Department of Electronic Systems.

The focus area of the position is distributed processing and implementation, with a particular emphasis on IoT environments. Experience with one or more among signal processing, machine learning, edge computing, data acquisition, and advanced instrumentation is considered relevant.

The successful candidate needs to have a solid academic background which allows her/him to operate between signal processing and circuit and radio systems identifying and promoting innovative cross-disciplinary research directions.

The Researcher is in a permanent position and reports to the Head of the Department of Electronic Systems.

Duties of the position

The responsibilities of the position will encompass research together with personnel connected to IoT@NTNU and teaching; the teaching part relates mainly to assisting in undergraduate projects and laboratory works. In addition, the researcher will work with the laboratory engineer and will help in planning the acquisition of lab equipment in the long term.

Research:

  • Algorithm design and implementation of decentralized data processing pertaining to IoT applications;
  • PhD (co-)supervision;
  • Help in the development and execution of externally funded research projects;
  • International collaboration.

Teaching:

  • Participate in the teaching of regular courses central to the position.
  • (Co-)supervision of students for Specialization and Master projects.

The teaching load would be maximum 20% of the position.

Required selection criteria

  • The position of Researcher within Decentralized Data Processing and Implementation in IoT requires a PhD degree within Electrical Engineering or other relevant disciplines.
  • The candidate is expected to work independently, have a strong mathematical background, and a PhD in statistical signal processing, applied mathematics, statistics or machine learning, wireless sensor networks, electrical engineering, energy-efficient electronics, or related fields.
  • Good written and oral English language skills 

Additional requirements are:

  • Applicant's academic work must be essentially within data processing applicable to decentralized IoT systems, e.g., distributed signal processing, statistical signal processing,machine learning over graphs, hardware implementations

Preferred selection criteria

  • Applicants with a strong publication record
  • Experience with hardware implementations

We offer

Salary and conditions

The gross salary for the position of researcher (code 1109) is normally remunerated at gross from NOK560 000 - 760 000 before tax per year, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund,

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU.

It is a prerequisite that you can be present at and accessible to the institution daily.
