Fixed-term, full-time opportunity available for three years

The School of Civil, Environmental and Mining Engineering (CEME) is seeking to recruit an outstanding Research Fellow in Structural Engineering, for a three-year fixed-term full-time appointment.

The Research Fellow will contribute to research in two main fields, namely repair and rehabilitation of civil infrastructure with advanced materials (such as FRP composites) and off-earth construction. Specific projects of interest include the development and characterisation of off-earth construction materials as well as off-earth structural forms.

The school is supported by well-equipped laboratories for structures and construction materials level research. A laboratory is also currently being built that will service lunar construction activities. The Research Fellow will support the development of this laboratory.

To be successful you will need:

• A PhD in Civil Engineering specialising in structural engineering and a track record of research, relative to the career opportunity.
• Highly self-motivated with the knowledge and skills to undertake research in the structures discipline that includes: Repair and rehabilitation of structures with advanced materials (such as FRP composites); Experience in experimentation and modelling of structures or structural elements; Willingness to undertake research on the development and behavior of materials and structures in off-earth (e.g. Lunar) environments, and develop research plans/proposals in the area.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the writing of journal articles and grant applications, and the ability to communicate scientific and engineering ideas to a range of audiences.
• Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a professional and collegial manner, building rapport with all levels of academic and professional staff and students.
• Commitment to the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion, and ability to contribute to the diversity of the School community.
