Job description

The School of Electronics, Electrical Engineering & Computer Science (EEECS) at Queen’s University Belfast, is seeking a Research Fellow to play a key role in the UKRI-funded Artemis Chirp Sonar Research Project within the Centre for Wireless Innovation (CWI).

This project is part of the £33 million UKRI-funded Belfast Maritime Consortium led by Artemis Technologies, the flagship programme for the UK Department for Transport’s Maritime 2050 strategy aiming to produce the world’s first fully autonomous electric hydrofoil vessel. The main aim of this project is to design, verify and implement the nextgeneration high-resolution chirp sonar for underwater imaging.

The successful candidate will work alongside other researchers to develop the next generation sonar system for highresolution underwater imaging. The developed sonar system will be deployed as an essential component of the hydrofoil vessel navigation and collision avoidance system.

This is a unique opportunity and the successful candidate will be part of a strong team of research academics, postdocs and engineers who develop innovative and underpinning sensing and imaging technologies for the maritime applications.

The successful candidate must have and your CV/Cover letter should clearly demonstrate you have:

  • Minimum of 2:1 Honours degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering/Computer Science (or related discipline).
  • Have or be about obtain a PhD in a relevant area related to research activity.
  • Three years recent relevant research experience.
  • Proven expertise in the design of analog and digital electronic circuits, application of integrated circuits, microcontrollers and FPGA.

Fixed term contract posts are available for the stated period in the first instance but in particular circumstances may be renewed or made permanent subject to availability of funding.
