Research Fellow - Spectroscopy of Spin-Crossover (SCO) Materials

Job description

The School of Chemistry & Chemical Engineering (CCE) at Queen’s University Belfast, is seeking to appoint a Research Fellow to undertake research in the area of the spectroscopy of spin-crossover (SCO) materials.

The successful candidate will carry out research on nano/micro-materials This will involve developing methods for tracking SCO dynamics in crystals using Raman spectroscopy as well as preparing and testing assemblies of crystalline particles of SCO materials, including assembly at liquid-liquid interfaces and their subsequent conjugation with metal nanoparticles.

The duties also include presenting regular progress reports on research to members of the group, international research collaborators or to external audiences to disseminate and publish research findings.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a team that work in partnership with various stakeholders, making fundamental research discoveries and translating them into real solutions for global challenges.

You will also have the opportunity to supervise junior members of the team including lecturing duties within your area of expertise, under the guidance of an academic staff member.

This post is available on a fixed term contract until 28/02/2024.

The successful candidate must have and your CV/Cover should clearly demonstrate you have:

  • Have or be about to obtain a PhD in Chemistry.
  • At least three years relevant research experience in preparation and analysis of nanoparticles.
  • Expertise in preparation of materials using interfacial assembly of nanoparticles.
  • Extensive practical experience in operation of Raman spectrometers and electron microscopes.
  • Experience of supervising undergraduate or postgraduate project students in a research laboratory.

Fixed term contract posts are available for the stated period in the first instance but in particular circumstances may be renewed or made permanent subject to availability of funding.
