UCL is one of the world's leading multidisciplinary universities, with more than 13,300 staff and 42,000 students from 150 different countries. At the very heart of UCL's mission is its research and teaching. We aspire to provide a supportive environment where academic insight and brave thinking can thrive, deepening knowledge and developing solutions to problems worldwide. UCL’s Faculty of Population Health Sciences, currently ranked 5th in the world, is home to its prestigious Institute of Global Health. IGH’s vision is for a world where international policy on global health is informed by world-class research, and is the principal driving force behind UCL’s Grand Challenge of Global Health. It is a significant entity within the Faculty, with over £160m income and 1,400 postgraduate students.

Following the recent appointment of Professor Ibrahim Abubakar as Dean of the Faculty of Population Health Sciences, UCL is now looking to appoint a Director of the IGH.  The main purpose of the role will be to provide strategic leadership and management to the Institute and develop and implement the Institute’s strategic operating plan. As a member of the Dean’s faculty leadership team the Director of IGH will contribute to and lead on Faculty initiatives. The Director will also be responsible for ensuring research and teaching excellence, promoting enterprise and knowledge transfer, promoting equality, diversity and inclusion, and providing academic leadership mentorship and supervision for staff.

IGH has a broad academic reach, and as a result the appointed Director may come with any disciplinary background that supports global health and an international reputation in a field relevant to IGH. Alongside this, they will possess leadership and management experience of an academic entity, ideally across both research and teaching.  Additionally, the post holder will bring a track record of attracting external funding for research, teaching, and the mentoring of postdoctoral researchers. The successful individual will be able to work collaboratively and cohesively within a high performing research team and be able to contribute to the continued success of the Institute, Faculty and University.
