We wish to appoint a Research Fellow to support an exciting and new research project to study the national impact of Project Cautioning And Relationship Abuse (‘CARA’) awareness raising workshops for first time offenders of domestic violence and abuse. You will be required to inform the design and implementation of the quantitative measures of the CARA study and evaluate the national impact of CARA on reducing harm to victims of domestic violence and abuse.

You will be working with police data from different regional areas to model the impact of Project CARA on reducing harm to victims/survivors.  You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the research activities related to the quantitative study including liaising with police leads across several regions; data extraction and data analysis; development of data protection impact assessments (DPIAs); preparation and drafting of reports, papers and communications. 

You will have relevant PhD* or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in a relevant area and a keen interest in the fields of social/health inequalities. Excellent organisational, communication skills and the ability to work independently are also essential this role. A good understanding of domestic abuse and how the UK justice system deals with it would be an advantage.

You will join a national multidisciplinary team of enthusiastic researchers and clinicians across social sciences and public health. The study is supported by the Healthy Communities theme within the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) Wessex and the postholder will work closely and collaboratively with the NIHR ARC Wessex and partner organisations. 

The NIHR ARC Wessex conducts applied health research with the aims to improve outcomes for patients and public; improve quality, delivery and efficiency of health and care services; increase the sustainability of health and care systems locally and nationally, through collaborative partnership. It has four thematic programmes of work:

It is funded via the NIHR’s National Priority Area Research Programme 2020-23 via the ‘Health and care inequalities’ Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) Consortium. This Consortium is led by the NIHR North East and North Cumbria.

 *Applications will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification.  The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon completion of PhD.  Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
