Applications are invited for a Temporary 8 month post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 within School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering

The Optical engineering research group seeks to appoint a postdoctoral research fellow (PD level 1, for a period of 8 months. The successful candidate should have an Optical Engineering degree (PhD and BE/ME) with training in the areas of Fourier Optics and imaging.

They must be experienced in designing, implementing, analysing and calibrating both Optical (Vis) and Terahertz imaging systems. The successful candidate should have a solid research record (multiple publications in reputable international reviewed journals) in the areas of both Optical and Terahertz imaging, a record of and a willingness to applying for research funding, and a record of mentoring and interacting with graduate students and undergraduate students.

The candidate will contribute to a range of research activities, including assisting in research laboratory organisation and management, assisting in supervising research projects involving graduate students, and both BE and ME level students. A team player is required.

This is a research focused role, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training and development under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator. The primary purpose of the role is to further develop your research skills and competences, including the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications, the development of funding proposals, the mentorship of graduate students along with the opportunity to develop your skills in research led teaching.

In addition to the Principal Duties and Responsibilities listed below, the successful candidate will also carry out the following duties specific to this project: - Develop Imaging systems (Optical and Terahertz). Includes design, implementation, calibration and application. - Work closely with PI in a diverse research environment (work with a range of group members at different technical and professional levels). - Assist in managing a research laboratory (Optical Engineering). - Assist in preparing research proposals. - Undertaking such other appropriate research related duties as directed by the PI/Head of School.

Fixed salary: €39,131 per annum
