THE ROLE
Having inherited a large technology estate from our former parent company, we are undergoing a delivery and technology transformation – with a focus on building strategic solutions to deliver quality software rapidly and assuredly to four main product areas:

  • DataPoints, our flagship data and analysis tools for the world’s elite research universities.
  • WUR Portal, our data collection platform is a key component of our data pipelines, used by universities worldwide.
  • Academic, our B2B flagship website offering data-led content for academic audience.
  • Student, our latest B2C endeavor to segment and harness our huge student audience.

We are looking for passionate and talented people to join our engineering team, you should most definitely have an interest in data, whether producing data, visualising data, collecting data or supporting systems that manage data – we're passionate about our business and our business is data.
Specifically, this role will sit within the DataPoints team, who are currently undertaking a rewrite of a large portion of the platform.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working within small cross-functional teams with the ability to undertake development work independently while also working as part of the team
  • Some experience working with product owners/managers to design and develop solutions
  • The ability to work closely with other team member
  • An understanding of software design and test methodologies
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies
  • Experience working with common software development tools such a Git and Jira
  • A strong working knowledge of JavaScript/Node.JS and at-least one modern front-end framework (React is desirable)
  • A good working knowledge HTML & CSS
  • Experience or knowledge with front-end UI/UX design is desirable
  • The ability to create and work with HTTP APIs (GraphQL is desirable)
  • Experience working with data storage technologies such as MongoDB, Postgres or other SQL

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contribute to the success of a small product-focused, cross functional development team
  • Develop both front-end and back-end features
  • Work with the product manager to deliver leading class software solutions
  • Develop multiple applications and APIs, both internal and user facing
  • Write high quality, well-tested code
  • Conduct functional and non-functional testing
  • Troubleshoot and debug applications

  • You are a highly experienced software engineer with a broad experience of web technologies
  • You thrive in a cross functional environment and are keen to learn new things.
  • You can happily work on code in both the client and server, although you may have a preference between the two
  • You actively ask questions and are open to taking advice
