Job description

The School of Biological Sciences at Queen’s University, Belfast is currently seeking to appoint an exceptional candidate to the post of Research Fellow in Cardiovascular Research. The successful candidate will undertake a senior role within a British Heart Foundation funded study focused on defining microRNA and nuclear receptor signalling using both cell culture system and in vivo animal models with insulin resistance and atherosclerosis.

This post is available on a fixed term contract for 12 months.

The successful candidate must have and your CV/Cover letter (or application form) should clearly demonstrate you have:

  • Have or be about to obtain a relevant PhD in molecular biology, cell biology, pharmacology or a related area of biomedicine.
  • At least 3-years recent relevant research experience in non-coding RNA (microRNA and LncRNA) research, metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular disease or closely related area relevant to this project in molecular/cellular biology or biomedicine
  • Recent extensive hands-on experience in the following:
    • Cell culture/Western Blotting/qPCR
    • microRNA/lncRNA research / microRNA target prediction database
    • Hepatic and/or cardiac primary cell isolation /
    • Breeding tissue specific knockout mouse models / In vivo mouse model establishment
  • Recent strong relevant publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals.

Fixed term contract posts are available for the stated period in the first instance but in particular circumstances may be renewed or made permanent subject to availability of funding.
