  • Salary range: Level B $102,983 - $121,864p.a. or Level C $125,639- $144,523 plus 17% superannuation

About the team

The Centre for Microscopy, Characterisation and Analysis (CMCA) is the principal research infrastructure centre at UWA. CMCA comprises a team of academic, research, technical and administrative staff supporting a diverse range of instrument platforms. The CMCA’s mission is to enable research excellence by providing access to world-class scientific infrastructure and expertise in characterisation to researchers and industry.

The CMCA hosts and provides management oversight of the Western Australian node of the National Imaging Facility (NIF*), Microscopy Australia (MA), and the Metabolomics and Proteomics nodes of Bioplatforms Australia (BPA). The Centre’s Bioimaging Facility, which incorporates the NIF node platforms and staff, currently comprises a range of small animals, plants and materials imaging capabilities.

The WA NIF node is currently undertaking a major expansion to provide researchers with access to research-only human 3T MRI and digital PET-CT scanners. This will be the first research dedicated human imaging facility in the state.

About the opportunity

As a Research Fellow and expert in radiochemistry, you will support clinical and pre-clinical radiopharmaceutical development, production and quality control for the WA NIF node. A key focus is to drive the availability and range of radiopharmaceuticals, diagnostic and therapeutic, available to researchers and to promote NIF activities to the international, national and state scientific community

You will use your academic expertise and knowledge to lead research and assist and advise NIF node clients on the use of radiopharmaceuticals. You will have the opportunity to build relationships and collaborate closely with research groups in Western Australia and nationally and participate actively in the national network of NIF Fellows.

To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate:

  • PhD/DPhil in a relevant subject area – Physics, Chemistry, Life Sciences or related field
  • Knowledge and practical experience in radiopharmaceutical science, including experience in automation of radiochemistry processes
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, including teaching, report writing, presentation skills and the ability to liaise with equipment manufacturers, agents and suppliers
  • Ability to work productively and collaboratively under time constraints
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and compliance with Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) relevant to a radiopharmaceutical laboratory, including significant knowledge of, and experience in, laboratory radiation safety
