The Faculty of Computer Science, Institute of Systems Architecture, invites applications for the

Chair (W3) of Distributed Systems

starting on April 1, 2023.

You (m/f/x) are expected to represent the subject "Distributed Systems" in research and teaching. In research, applicants should have made lasting contributions to one or more topical subareas of the field of “Distributed Systems”. Potential research directions cover cloud-based software architectures for example with focus on Serverless-/Edge-/Mobile-Computing and the architecture of large-scale and robust Cyber-Physical Systems. Further potential research directions are in the context of system software for high performance, energy-efficient, and robust networking techniques with focus on software-defined networks or software concepts for quantum-based communication. Moreover, we appreciate connections to tangible application areas like mobility, robotics, medicine, or energy systems. Your tasks in teaching include lectures in German and English language within the scope of the dedication of the chair in undergraduate and graduate studies of Bachelor, Master, and Diploma courses at the Faculty of Computer Science as well as at related faculties. Moreover, the supervision of Bachelor-, Master-, and PhD-theses is required. Finally, experience and active participation in self-administration within the academic boards of the Faculty of Computer Science and of TU Dresden are expected.

We place emphasis on your scientific credentials, your excellent international publications and contacts as well as on your participation in research projects in one or more of the above-mentioned areas. Your ability and willingness to start and continue interdisciplinary cooperation projects within the diverse technical and scientific community in Dresden − especially with institutions that are members of DRESDEN-concept − and other faculties of TU Dresden (mainly from the School of Engineering Sciences) is of special importance. We place special emphasis on the successful supervision of PhD students. Applicants should exhibit experience in acquisition and management of third-party-funded projects. We expect very good teaching skills as well as the ability and willingness to offer courses in English language. Proficiency in German language is not a prerequisite for appointment. However, we expect the successful candidate to acquire sufficient language skills in German to conduct teaching and administrative tasks within two years of appointment. Applicants must fulfil the employment qualification requirements of § 58 of the Act on the Autonomy of Institutions of Higher Education in the Free State of Saxony (SächsHSFG).
