Job description

The School of Electronics, Electrical Engineering & Computer Science (EEECS) at Queen’s University Belfast, is currently seeking a Research Fellow to work for the highly prestigious European Research Council (ERC) Consolidator Grant BEATRICE: “Beyond Massive MIMO: Living at the Interface of Electromagnetics and Information Theory” - led by Professor Michalis Matthaiou.

The successful candidate will be based at The Centre for Wireless Innovation and will develop new solutions for achieving wireless power transfer through a Reflective Intelligent Metasurface (RIS).

We are seeking applicants with experience in communication and fundamental electromagnetic theory, with demonstrable background in RIS and/or wireless power transfer evidenced by journal publications in top-tier IEEE Transactions.

You will join a vibrant research group of 50 people, including 13 academics and will have the opportunity to contribute to the research activities of the new Queen’s Global Research Institute on Electronics, Communications and Information Technology (ECIT-2).

The successful candidate must have and your CV/Cover letter should clearly demonstrate you have:

  • At least 2:1 honours degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • Have, or be about to obtain, a relevant PhD in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • At least 3 years relevant research experience to include:
    • Undertaking research in the area of communication theory and electromagnetic theory for future wireless networks.
    • A proven track record of using communication theoretic or electromagnetic numerical models to carry out analyses, critical evaluations, and interpretations of experimental data relevant to the research project.
    • Working effectively as part of a research team in the development and promotion of the research theme.

Fixed term contract posts are available for the stated period in the first instance but in particular circumstances may be renewed or made permanent subject to availability of funding.
