The University is now inviting applications and nominations for the post of Vice President (Student and Global Affairs). Reporting to the Deputy President and Provost, the appointee will be a member of the Central Management Team responsible for student and global affairs of the University. This appointment will be made on either a substantive basis or a concurrent basis for a renewable term of three years. The incumbent is expected to normally serve two terms in the position with the possibility of extension for further terms.
The appointee will be required to:
(a) lead the development and execution of institutional policies and plans in the areas of co/extra-curricular development and wellbeing of students to help realize the University’s vision of providing the best holistic education to our students for the benefit of Hong Kong, the nation and the world;
(b) lead the development and execution of institutional policies and plans in global engagement by working closely with Faculties/Schools and Departments to foster strong partners for collaboration in student exchanges, educational programmes, research and knowledge transfer;
(c) formulate and implement effective strategies to promote the global reputation of the University and for the recruitment of high-quality students to PolyU;
(d) formulate and implement effective strategies to facilitate the career placement and planning of students;
(e) engage students proactively to foster a culture of diversity and inclusiveness to embrace different views and cultures, a good understanding of and respect for social responsibility/civic-mindedness, and a sense of identity with the Chinese culture and the nation;
(f) enhance the study experience of students on campus and in the residential halls, including the development of a number of theme-based Residential Colleges to support multi-talented growth of our students;
(g) lead and coordinate mentorship programmes at different levels by developing close interactions with a robust network of role models and prominent leaders of the PolyU community;
(h) oversee the operation of some non-academic units of the University as designated; and
(i) perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Deputy President and Provost or his delegate.
(a) have outstanding academic qualifications at Chair Professor level with evidence of eminent scholarship;
(b) have demonstrated capability and track records in formulating and executing policies and strategies in matters relating to student affairs including global partnership to foster student development;
(c) have a global outlook and a good understanding of the global trends and opportunities in higher education to be an effective ambassador of PolyU on the global stage;
(d) have effective analytical, problem solving and crisis management skills to deal with unforeseen circumstances effectively;
(e) have the ability to build on PolyU’s vision of becoming a leading university in relation to the provision of the best holistic education for the benefit of Hong Kong, the nation and the world;
(f) have experience of being a hostel warden as an advantage;
(g) possess excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills as well as a strong team spirit;
(h) be a visionary and inspiring leader with a strong drive for excellent performance; and
(i) have an excellent command of both written and spoken English and Chinese, with proficiency in Putonghua being an advantage.
Remuneration and Conditions of Service
Terms of appointment and remuneration package are negotiable and highly competitive.
