Job description

We invite applications from candidates in any field of Economics. We particularly encourage applications from candidates working in areas relevant to key contemporary policy debates, such as environmental economics; poverty and inequality: and gender, race and discrimination.  The department is informed by an inclusive interdisciplinary vision; we encourage a diversity of approaches and methodological perspectives.  We value diversity and inclusion, and applications from currently under-represented groups are particularly encouraged.

Successful candidates will be expected to engage in research, teach undergraduate and graduate students, including on the new MSc in Economics and Policy, and perform other faculty duties as required by the Head of Department. Candidates should have a PhD in Economics (or another closely related quantitative subject) or be close to completion. Your research profile and trajectory should be outstanding and translate into producing publications of international quality to further enhance the profile of the Department of Political Economy Base salary is competitive with peer institutions. Additional benefits include a good pension scheme, relocation package, a generous research allowance and excellent academic leave.

Start Date for this role would be January 2022 but a later start within the 2021-22 AY is possible.

The Department of Political Economy is a unique interdisciplinary enterprise located in the heart of London with proximity to both the world of politics and the city. Founded in 2010, the department is the only dedicated Department of Political Economy in the United Kingdom. The teaching and research recognises that the disciplines of Politics and Economics are inextricably linked; it is not possible to properly understand political processes without exploring the economic context in which politics operates. Similarly, sound economic analysis requires an awareness of how resource allocation is conditioned by political institutions, historical context and ethical values, and the way these have been understood by different traditions in social thought. In a world characterised by financial uncertainty, ecological insecurity and value conflict, the links between political and economic processes are ever more apparent and the need for a multifaceted appreciation of how they operate, has never been greater.

You will be responsible to the Head of Department. More information about the Department, School and Faculty can be found on the King’s website:
