Senior Research Fellow, Centre for Biomedical Ethics

Job Description

We are looking to appoint a full-time Programme Director for the SHAPES (Science, Health and Policy-relevant Ethics in Singapore) Programme at the Centre for Biomedical Ethics (CBmE), Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS).

The CBmE was established in September 2006 in the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine through a generous gift by the Chen Su Lan Trust.  We work to develop understanding, capacity for good judgement, and sound ethical practice in the context of healthcare provision, biomedical science, and health-related policy development.  CBmE is a thriving centre for learning, teaching and research relating to ethical and legal aspects of healthcare and biomedical sciences.  We study issues of broad international significance with a particular interest in learning for and from Singapore and Asia and work collaboratively with academic colleagues across and beyond NUS, and with key stakeholders in the healthcare sector and biomedical science and policy communities.  You can find out more about CBmE here: https://medicine.nus.edu.sg/cbme/

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of the successful candidate will be:

  • Overall management of the programme, including ensuring that projects meet the KPIs within the stipulated budgets, and that reporting requirements, including financial reporting, are fulfilled
  • Supervision and mentoring of research and administrative staff employed under the grant
  • Coordinates workplan between areas of work to achieve efficient implementation within CBmE, through effective liaison and communication between theme leads, faculty members and research staff
  • Leadership (e.g., based on interest and expertise as Theme Lead), contribution to or support for specific thematic areas in the workplan
  • Leadership, contribution to or support for expert symposia, position papers and discussion papers and other outputs related to these areas
  • Leadership or contribution to government/local or international organisation/ public consultation responses
  • Assist CBmE in identification of opportunities for further collaboration on issues of importance to RIE2025
  • Assist CBmE in developing and maintaining local and international networks of scholars, scientists, and policymakers for collaboration
  • Facilitation and teaching of relevant professional training workshops
  • Coordination of, and teaching in, MCI5000 Ethics and Regulation of Clinical Research (part of Master of Clinical Investigation programme)
