Postdoctoral Fellow in Digital Economics and Sustainable ICT

About the position 

At the Department of Information Security and Communication Technology, there is a vacancy for a Postdoctoral position in Digital Economics and Sustainable ICT.

A prospective candidate is expected to carry out research in the field of digital economics, sustainable ICT, circular economy and Corporate Social Responsibility.The postdoctoral position is a research position, but some teaching can also be part of the workload.

The successful candidate will be offered a two-years position. 

The position’s working place is at NTNU’s campus in Trondheim and reports to IIK’s Head of Department.

Duties of the position

The objective of the postdoctoral position is to further develop and strengthen the research on sustainable ICT and innovative business models.

The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the development of cross-disciplinary knowledge of the relationship between innovative ICT technologies, sustainable business model and digital society challenges. Correspondingly, the candidate is expected to perform research in areas related to digital transformation and sustainable innovation and publish his/her work in international publication channels. 

As part of the postdoctoral position's duties, the candidate is expected to work in close research collaboration with existing research groups at the Faculty and participate in writing applications for new research projects.

Required selection criteria

A postdoctoral research fellowship is a qualification position in which the main objective is the qualification for work in academic positions. You must have completed a Norwegian doctoral degree in economics, computer science, business management, or equivalent, and competences in digital economics and sustainable ICT or a corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree is required.

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants and national guidelines for appointment as PhD, post doctor and research assistant .

Preferred selection criteria

The research profile of the person shall have a focus on the interplay between digital economics, ICTs and sustainable development, specifically on economic viable, new deployments of innovative ICT technologies to reduce environmental impact, which invokes the need for a thorough understanding of the technology, societal impact, application potential of innovative ICT technologies and institutional environment in which technology applications are developed and adopted.

The ideal candidate for the position should have expertise in ICT markets, innovative business models, policy and regulation, including digital transformation and the European Green Deal policies and knowledge on the role of ICT to achieve the United Nation Sustainable Development Goals.

Moreover, the candidate should have knowledge on methods of assessing the direct and indirect impact of ICT systems on energy consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and on the rebound effects generated by information and communication technologies.

We are seeking a candidate with a solid academic background in one or several of the following areas:

  • Digital business models and sustainable business ecosystem
  • Digital economics, including network effect analysis and value modelling
  • Innovations theories
  • Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)
  • Corporate Social Responsibility
  • Sustainable Product-Service Systems / Circular Economy
  • Digital markets, including modelling market behaviour, dynamics, and regulations

Further, the research profile of the person shall match the core research and competencies of the Department of Information Security and Communication Technology.

We offer 

Salary and conditions

The employment period is for 2 years and is expected to start in the first half of 2022. 

As a Postdoctoral Fellow (code 1352) you are normally paid from gross NOK 574 700  per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund. 

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU. After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.

It is a prerequisite you can be present at and accessible to the institution daily.

  • Relevant transcript of grades, diplomas, and certificates. The documents have to be translated to English unless they are in Norwegian, Danish, Swedish, German or English.
  • Attachments of any other relevant documents (e.g., awards).

Joint works will be considered. If it is difficult to identify your contribution to joint works, you must attach a brief description of your participation.
