Chair (W3) of Data Analytics in Hydro Sciences

associated with

the position as senior scientist at UFZ

in a joint appointment procedure at the earliest possible date. The place of work is Leipzig.

The chair is part of the new thematic focus “Smart Water Systems in an Extreme World” of the Center for Advanced Water Research (CAWR), which brings together water competencies at TU Dresden and UFZ. Research of the chair is expected to focus on the development and application of data science methods to investigate climate extremes as well as associated hazards and their impacts on ecosystem functions. You will actively participate in the bachelor, master and Ph.D. programs of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences at TU Dresden with a teaching obligation of at least two academic hours per week (according to the “Jülicher Modell”). Your responsibilities also include contributing to the cooperation with partners in science, politics, and the private sector, as well as active initiation of related projects in the future. Your duties furthermore include active participation in academic self-administration. The chair is combined with the position of leading a working group at UFZ in the Research Unit “Smart Models and Monitoring”.

We are seeking you as a personality with an excellent publication record and international networks, teaching experience, a proven ability to attract third-party funding and to cooperate within an inter- and transdisciplinary environment. You should focus on fundamental research and should document your ability to acquire DFG funding or similar. We are looking for you as an outstanding international researcher in the field of “Data Analytics in Hydro Sciences” who will complement and strengthen existing research priorities in the emerging field of hydro sciences both at UFZ and TU Dresden. In addition to a special aptitude for scientific work, we assume outstanding didactic skills. Applicants must fulfill the employment qualification requirements of § 58 of the Act on the Autonomy of Institutions of Higher Education in the Free State of Saxony (SächsHSFG).
