At TU Dresden, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Department of Geosciences, Institute of Geography, the Chair of Computational Landscape Ecology offers a project position as

Research Associate / Postdoc (m/f/x)

(subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)

starting as soon as possible with 80% of the fulltime weekly hours and the option of increase. The position is limited until September 30, 2024. The period of employment is governed by § 2 (2) Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG).

The position is part of the research project “ECO²SCAPE – Co-Design of Ecologically and Economically Efficient Policy Instruments and Measures for Conserving Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services in Cultural Landscapes”, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research within the Germany-wide Research Initiative for Biodiversity Conservation (FEdA). Together with farmers and local stakeholders in a model region in Saxony, ECO²SCAPE will develop novel agri-environmental measures and study their effects on biodiversity and ecosystem services using an innovative, systemic and transdisciplinary research approach. We seek a new colleague who would like to support this project with their work, contribute their own ideas and initiatives to the research project and who enjoys working in an open-minded, international and creative project team.

Tasks: Conducting biodiversity models (e.g. occupancy models) based on project data (e.g. bird surveys); development and implementation of landscape-scale models for allocating cooperative agri-environmental measures; active participation in the project consortium (including project meetings, data management, cooperation with researchers from the fields of computer science, environmental economics and political science); working on scientific publications and presenting research results at workshops and international conferences; project–related supervision of student assistants and final theses.

Requirements: university and, if applicable, PhD degree in ecology (or related) with a focus on biodiversity and conservation biology; excellent skills in biodiversity modelling; knowledge in handling spatial data (preferably in R); proficiency in spoken and written English; publication record in international peer-reviewed journals on topics related to this position; self-driven, flexible and result-oriented work ethic; above-average organizational and communication skills; a penchant for working closely with transdisciplinary project partners; class B driver’s license (or EU equivalent). Ornithological knowledge is desirable. Knowledge of German is desirable but not mandatory.
