Role Description

As part of our continued pursuit of excellence and achievement, we are looking to make a Professorial level appointment to support our long-term plans and further strengthen core areas of our research and teaching within Energy and Power.

About the Role

As a key role within Cranfield’s Energy and Power theme, you will lead all activities in this high growth, high impact subject area. Working with the Theme Director, you will take responsibility for developing and delivering the centres strategic direction, managing and recruiting staff, managing and driving academic research, managing the design and provision of world leading post graduate renewable energy courses, and taking full responsibility for the centres finance performance.

You will demonstrate the ability to win and execute large contracts and grants, and lead / coach proposal efforts from your team that position us for ever increasing impact and ever-growing reputation. You will deliver exemplary teaching on your courses and ensure your staff do likewise and will lead development of innovative course design and delivery for all student levels.

You will be expected to support the Centre by attracting funding, in collaboration with colleagues from across your team and, more broadly, across the Theme, School and the University.

About You

We are looking for an ambitious and inspirational leader who may already be a Professor, could be a successful Reader/Associate Professor ready to make the next step up in their career, or perhaps is a well-respected, successful senior industrialist with a research background. This key individual will be at the cutting edge of their field with a national and international reputation in Renewable Energy.

You will have a high-quality publication history relevant to the Renewables sector. You will be widely known for excellence in your subject area and will likely be a committed member of related academic and industrial networks. With an active research portfolio, you will be keen to grow the centres activities by sourcing and assisting others to win significant research opportunities. You will be passionate about the importance of work-place relevant post graduate degrees and about ensuring delivery of courses and research that are world class.

As leader of the centre, you will have well developed skills in managing scientific and engineering-based research and teaching teams, and will be able to demonstrate a clear ability to use that experience to inspire excellent performance from others.

You will be ambitious to progress personally, and ambitious to develop your new team and centre into a world leading group. As a senior team member within the Energy and Power theme, you will be an active supporter of cross centres aims and be on constant lookout for ways to spread best practice and to actively collaborate for the benefit of all.
