Job Details

We are pleased to announce an opening for a Postdoctoral Researcher position in the Department of Mechanical and Construction Engineering at  Northumbria University starting from January 2022. This position is part of a project funded by the Royal Academy of Engineering entitled “Multifunctional engineered layers based on absorption dynamics of responsive natural hydrogels for capturing greenhouse and toxic pollutants in animal farming and fertilizer industry”. The project proposes to develop complex models of absorption dynamics of greenhouse and toxic gases by hydrogel materials at low Reynolds number flows to determine interactions and adsorption/desorption of the flow at the interface of a hydrogel matrix in order to develop novel multifunctional layers for effective capturing these substances.

This position at Northumbria University would suit a highly motivated researcher interested in crossing discipline boundaries between transport phenomena, fluid dynamics, materials science, chemistry, physics and mathematical modeling. You will work with Dr Ulugbek Azimov and other academics and scientists in a consortium of leading researchers from Northumbria University, Industrial University of Santander in Colombia, and Innovation and Technology Inc. company in multidisciplinary research. Your primary role will be to develop a comprehensive model of absorption dynamics by natural hydrogel structures to capture toxic and greenhouse gases.

The applicant must have a doctorate degree in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or equivalent, before starting this position, proficiency in oral and written communication in the English language; and good collaborative skills, ability to lead independent ideas, and set objectives in a time-bound manner. Applicants with strong master’s degree are also encouraged to apply. The applicant will be evaluated based on their research experience, programming skills and track record demonstrable by journal publications. Any previous postdoctoral research experience will be desirable.

For an informal discussion about the post, please contact Dr Ulugbek Azimov through email ulugbek.azimov@northumbria.ac.uk
