About the opportunity
Our School of Architecture, Design and Planning has a broad range of research interests and a vibrant and supportive culture. We have recently launched our new and exciting strategic plan which reflects our commitment to social justice, student centred programs, multi-disciplinarity, staff professional development, and engagement with industry and the community.
The Design Lab explores the interactions between digital and emerging technologies and people, as well as the role of design for innovation, both within the built environment and beyond. Our areas of research span interaction design, computational creativity, design innovation, designing for health and well-being, digital place-making, human-computer interaction, human-robot interaction and urban data science both within the University, with industry and other institutions.
We offer a Bachelor in Design Computing, a Design Major, a Biodesign Major, a Master of Interaction Design and Electronic Arts and a Master of Design (with specialisations in Design Innovation, and Strategic Design). Our programs are also undergoing transformation to address critical issues of ethics, sustainability, indigenous perspectives and emerging technologies.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- teach into the Master of Design or Master of Interaction Design and Electronic Arts programs, including subjects that range from design thinking, design innovation, strategic design and user experience
- contribute to the School's research capacity in design education and/or design research.
About you
We are looking for a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Design who possesses:
- a complete (or near complete, within 3 months) PhD in an academic field relevant to the discipline or equivalent professional experience
- a demonstrated track record of successful lecturing and tutoring (including studio-based teaching) or design facilitation (e.g., workshops, design sprints or other design projects) in areas that span design, strategy and/or innovation (e.g., design thinking or design management)
- a network of relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions, partners and stakeholders that can be leveraged to enrich teaching, the student learning experience, graduate job readiness and to enhance the standing of the discipline, school and University
- the ability to communicate effectively across a range of media and forums to expert and non-expert audiences, including the use of hybrid, digital, online platforms for social engagement and learning.
