Continuing, part-time (0.5 FTE) position available immediately

This key teaching position within the Adelaide Dental School facilitates the academic and professional training of our undergraduate dental and oral health students in Geriatric and Special Needs Dentistry. This position has a focus on innovative teaching methodology in both theoretical and clinical settings, support of our senior undergraduate dental and oral health students through direct clinic supervision and the provision of student feedback and clinical assessments across all aspects of general dental practice, foster the development of our students in Geriatric and Special Needs Dentistry within the context of their overall development as dental practitioners and facilitate the implementation and oversight of a Geriatric and Special Needs Dentistry teaching program.

This position may involve occasional out of hours work related to the Geriatric and Special Needs Dentistry teaching program. Further activities will include a focus on student support and collaboration with other academic staff in organisational activities within the school, the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences and the broader University.

In addition, you will oversee and guide the implementation of key strategies to support the Adelaide Dental School in upholding the academic quality and integrity of its teaching program, offering an opportunity for those who seek to positively influence the next generations of dentists and oral health therapists.

It is a requirement that the successful applicant will be able to provide clinical supervision of students in the Adelaide Dental Hospital in the Adelaide Health and Medical Sciences Building (North Terrace) SA Dental clinics and on occasions in regional rural areas.

To be successful you will need:

  • Completion of a PhD, or have equivalent qualifications in Geriatric and Special Needs Dentistry and eligibility for AHPRA registration.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in the preparation and delivery of high quality course and subject design, and in the delivery of high quality student centred learning and teaching at an undergraduate level that includes the capacity to incorporate new technologies and new approaches to teaching and learning; as well as marking and assessment activities; and a commitment to excellence in teaching.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in clinical teaching (all aspects of general dentistry).
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of teaching and research teams; to lead and build effective relationships and partnerships within an academic setting; within the dental profession; interprofessional settings and community organisations.
  • Very high level interpersonal, communication and organisational skills.
