About Technical Services

Technical Services provides an Electronic, Electrical and Mechanical engineering support service to all Cranfield Defence and Security (CDS) staff, students and private contractors.

About the Role

You will provide technical and manufacturing support in the Mechanical Workshop and Laboratories to CDS which includes the manufacture and construction of components and equipment for research, teaching, student projects and external customers from drawings, sketches and precise verbal instructions.

As part of our commitment to support and develop Technical staff across the University, we have now also become a founding signatory of the Science Council's Technician Commitment. This is a sector wide, collaborative initiative led by the Science Council and supported by the 'Technicians Make It Happen' campaign, to ensure visibility, recognition, career development and sustainability for technicians working in higher education and research.

About You

You will hold a City and Guilds - Mechanical Engineering Craft Level 3/ONC or Equivalent qualification.  You will be capable of working to precise limits in a range of skills including Turning, Milling, Grinding and general Fitting.  Experience within a workshop/machine shop using a range of machines including manual and CNC, whilst working from detailed drawings is essential.
