Do you have a strong background in sustainable construction, building design, or a related built environment discipline? Do you have effective data and analytical skills? Do you want to join an exciting and dynamic partnership involving the University of Lincoln and Sanctuary Homes, one of the largest providers of social housing in the UK?

This project focusses on Sanctuary Homes’ need to innovate its housing design and construction methods in response to the global challenges of climate change, while creating affordable, sustainable homes. It will create an evaluative framework capturing the entire procurement process involved in developing a home, which will feed into developing new housing types.

Sanctuary Group (established in 1969) is one of the leading providers of housing, care and commercial services in the UK. The group employs more than 13,000 people and manages over 100,000 units of accommodation, providing homes for more than 250,000 people in England and Scotland. The stock includes general rented, retirement living, supported housing, student and key working accommodation and care homes. Sanctuary homes mission is to build affordable homes and sustainable communities where people choose to live.

The University of Lincoln is a progressive, forward-looking and dynamic international university. It continues to grow by focusing on research and teaching excellence, external funding streams, and by putting students at the heart of everything it does. The Lincoln School of Architecture and the Built Environment (LSABE) is one of six schools in the College of Arts and plays a dynamic role in the intellectual and cultural landscapes of the region and beyond. LSABE has a collegiate, innovative and lively atmosphere and takes pride in the quality of its teaching, research and the student experience as a whole.

This project is innovative, and unique, and provides an opportunity to evaluate sustainability across the entire procurement process, from land acquisition, through housing design, housing construction, occupancy and use, and ultimate recycling and disposal.

The Associate must be able to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders both in-house and externally, and academics and professionals. A supervisory team will support the Associate throughout the project and will include academics from the University of Lincoln, led by Prof Stephen Pretlove, and a team of industrial experts from Sanctuary Homes, led by Dr Colleen Eccles.

As a KTP Associate working with Sanctuary you will be instrumental in developing the company’s expertise in sustainable housing design, and in refining their internal procurement processes in order to develop an innovative framework for the procurement of affordable and sustainable homes. You will be primarily based at the Sanctuary offices in Worcester, and will also have access to the University of Lincoln and all of its support services. You will have access to a training and development package worth £6,000 to be spent according to your needs and the project’s requirements, enabling you to work effectively on your KTP project and to plan for your future career. You will also receive two KTP residential modules training to equip you with the skills and knowledge required to complete the project successfully, for which time is allocated and funding provided.
