About Role/You

As the Research Assistant or Fellow, you will undertake research activities in line with the University's research strategy. Specifically, you will work as a member of the multidisciplinary team working on a Victorian Higher Education State Investment Fund (VHESIF) project that aims to develop digital tools and techniques for improving workplace safety from airborne pathogens including COVID-19. This project will require connecting offline datasets for pathogen risk (CFD simulations & human movement (building security data) with online datasets (IoT/BMS/building security).

As one of the five Research Assistant/Fellows in this project, you will obtain the above datasets from other project researchers & industry clients. Your tasks then involve providing a linkage system & common data interfaces between these component datasets and a query/interrogation system for use by project team members & clients. The datasets include building management system (BMS) IoT environmental sensor data, building security system data (swipe card & camera), and airborne pathogen data (initially for COVID-19) obtained from computational fluid dynamics simulations of commercial Victorian buildings. The outcome of this project will be a cutting-edge, rapidly executed digital system for assessing COVID infection risk in commercial buildings.

Please note that this will be a 6-month contract starting in January 2022.

To be successful in this position, you'll have:

  • PhD or equivalent in Data Science, Information Technology, or relevant fields.
  • Ability to generate alternative funding projects through effective liaison with industry and government.
  • Scholarly writing skills and experience in preparing publications for a variety of audiences, including relevant publications in high quality peer reviewed journals and conferences.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively as part of a high-achieving and collegial research culture.

Please Note: Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children Check.
