About the opportunity

Reporting directly to the Head, Executive Services, the Operations Manager will support the operations of research and clinical centres within the Faculty of Science. This role provides administrative and operational advice and input in the development of operations, management, policy, and planning for the research and clinical centres and their leadership teams. The Operations Manager will play a key role in maintaining external relations with relevant stakeholders for the research centres. The successful candidate will also ensure that University internal relationships are fully maintained and developed including being responsible for coordinating and contributing to strategic and operational projects led by the research centres.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • provide operational and administrative management support to the research and clinical centre(s) Executive
  • manage the efficient utilisation and deployment of resources for the research and clinical centres and related entities
  • implement governance and control and key compliance requirements for the research and clinical centres and related entities
  • provide effective financial management support for the research and clinical centres
  • manage communication and relationship with key stakeholders
  • provide effective leadership and management guidance and support to administrative staff in the research and clinical centres
  • manage risk and workplace health and safety within the research and clinical centres.
  • your initial placement will be directly to support the operations of the Gambling Treatment and Research Clinic (GTRC) in their capacity as the Gamble Aware Provider (GAP).

The Faculty of Science is one of six faculties operating within the University and includes the Schools of Chemistry, Geosciences, History and Philosophy of Science, Life and Environmental Sciences, Mathematics & Statistics, Physics, Psychology and the Sydney School of Veterinary Science. The Faculty stewards a range of research entities including the Sydney Institute of Agriculture and the Lambert Initiative for Cannabinoid Therapeutics, and partners with University-wide research centres including the Charles Perkins Centre (CPC), the Brain and Mind Centre (BMC) and the Australian Institute for Nanoscale Science and Technology (AINST).

About you

  • a tertiary qualification with extensive relevant experience in operations management, business administration and/or equivalent combination of relevant training and experience
  • excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with sound negotiating and conflict resolution skills, analytical skills as well as a demonstrated level of tact and discretion in dealing with a variety of matters
  • proven ability in taking initiative and exercising sound judgement in resolving matters that may arise as part of normal daily work
  • proven management experience together with flexibility, capacity to adapt to changing circumstances and environments
  • experience in the supervision, training, mentoring and performance management of staff; and experience managing and resolving a diverse range of HR issues
  • financial management experience and literacy, experience managing budgets and controlling income and expenditure for a project.
