Assistant Professor in Medicinal Chemistry with a focus on infectious diseases (f/m/d)

(full-time, initially limited to 3 years)

Responsibilities:

In this position you will typically take over teaching responsibilities in one or more of the following fields with an innovative perspective:

  • Medicinal chemistry
  • Chemical biology
  • Pharmaceutical chemistry
  • High-throughput screening

The successful candidate will supervise student research projects, and will advise students during their studies. The supervision of PhD students is also possible. In addition, the successful candidate shall engage in the further development of the undergraduate study program “Medicinal Chemistry and Chemical Biology”.

The candidate will be expected to engage in innovative research in the field of infectious diseases, to collaborate in an interdisciplinary research team, and to raise third-party funded projects. In particular, the candidate is invited to use and strengthen the University’s partnership with the Fraunhofer Institute for Translational Medicine and Pharmacology ITMP.

Your qualifications and experience:

  • PhD degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry with a focus on medicinal chemistry, preferably infectious diseases
  • Experience and success in teaching in international and diverse environments
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interest in innovative teaching methods
  • Strong publication record related to medicinal chemistry, with an interest in infectious diseases
  • Experience in transferring research knowledge for pharmaceutical-industrial applications
  • Responsible, self-motivated person able to work independently and as a part of a diverse team
  • Fluent in English, the language of instruction and communication on campus
  • Intercultural experience and competencies will be considered as additional assets
