Job Description

The Students and Education Directorate (SED) at King’s College London is entering a period of significant transformation. Informing our stakeholders of the changes and engaging our internal audiences with the vision and benefits of such transformation will be one of the key enablers of success. 

 

This is an exciting time to work across the Corporate Communications Team and SED to be a key player in supporting the transformation. The Change Communications and Engagement Manager will develop and deliver effective change communications and engagement activities to support the implementation of the SED Transformation Programme across the university.

 

The Change Communications and Engagement Manager will have experience in change communications, ideally having previously worked on large scale, complex change programmes or projects. They will be responsible for delivering impactful communications to support the transformation programme which is aligned to the Education strategy and Vision 2029.

 

This is a hands-on role, in addition to having an ability to create communications strategies and plans, you must have the skills to create compelling communications for different audiences, and the technical skills to use digital tools such as the Microsoft 365 suite of applications. 

 

This post will be offered on an a fixed-term contract for 2 years. 

 

This is a full-time post.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver effective change communications and engagement activity to support the implementation of the Transformation Programme.  
  • Create content for internal channels and engagement activities that fosters understanding, readiness, and commitment to change. 
  • Develop and maintain a schedule of activity with awareness of other communication and transformation programmes and initiatives taking place across the university and an understanding of how interdependencies will impact key stakeholders.
  • Under the supervision of the Communications Lead, ensure that the approach to communicating change is consistent with other initiatives around the university.
  • To support the Communications Lead and Transformation Director/s with their internal communications requirements, ensuring communications are targeted, timely and relevant for the audience.
  • Creating clear and engaging copy and content for a range of channels that adheres to the university’s brand guidelines, tone of voice and house style.
  • Support the development and delivery of two-way communications tailored to each stakeholder group to ensure maximum reach and impact.
  • To compile and edit SED Transformation content including regular internal messages from the Programme team and relevant stakeholders.
  • Develop and share insights with key stakeholders within the directorate, university leadership and other King’s communities.
  • Use range of measurement and evaluation techniques to determine activity reach and success of communications and engagement activity and provide actionable insights to optimise approach.
  • Identify, track and escalate issues and/or insights arising from stakeholder engagement with the Programme Team.

Skills, knowledge, and experience

Essential criteria

  1. Degree level qualification or equivalent experience
  2. Proven internal communications experience in a large complex organisation
  3. Demonstrable experience of developing and implementing change communications, preferably within a complex academic or public sector environment
  4. Experience of supporting senior stakeholders with internal communications
  5. Excellent writing skills, including the ability to translate complex information quickly for a variety of audiences using a range of tones and styles
  6. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in written communications with stakeholders at all levels
  7. Excellent IT skills (across suite of MS Office applications)
  8. Experience of using and producing content for online communications platforms, including Content Management Systems and e-newsletter creation
  9. Good relationship and stakeholder engagement experience with the ability to influence and negotiate, often beyond your immediate team
  10. A high attention to detail with the ability to edit copy and to proofread accurately without supervision
  11. Ability to undertake desk-top research and compile analysis and reports
  12. Strong time management skills and a proven ability to deliver to tight, and sometimes conflicting, deadlines

Desirable criteria

  1. Knowledge and understanding of the Higher Education sector
  2. A good understanding of change methodologies and frameworks
  3. A relevant Change Management qualification
  4. Experience of producing videos.
