Widening Participation and Social Mobility are pleased to be recruiting for a new Widening Participation Project Coordinator as part of the Access Post 16 team. This Directorate is made up of four sections – access, enhancement, success and lifecycle. Our model of widening participation is based around the student lifecycle, meaning we work with pupils in primary schools right the way through to Alumni of the University.
Our team works within the University in partnership with our academic units and students and externally with third sector organisations, community groups, schools and colleges locally and nationally. We run a variety of activities to encourage prospective students to consider higher education in general, and the University of Southampton in particular.
The Access team are responsible for delivering a range of events and activities on campus and in schools and colleges. Events include residentials, taster days, face to face activities, webinars and workshops.
The coordinator position will work within a supportive team of professional outreach staff, this role will involve the post-holder supporting in the delivery of a range of on and off-campus activities for schools and FE/sixth form colleges. The successful candidate will possess excellent communication skills, administration skills and the ability to be able to work both alone and within a team.
You would be joining the team at a key point of development following the creation of our Widening Participation and Social Mobility Directorate in the past year and the launch of our new Widening Participation Strategy. As our work is continuously changing to a more blended approach of face-face and online delivery, you will have the opportunity to develop new and engaging digital sessions through the extensive range of online platforms available and improve the success, advice and guidance for prospective students. You will also be supporting the Post 16 project leader develop some exciting new projects including work experience opportunities/student shadowing and International Widening Participation.
A knowledge of progression to Higher Education, experience of working with students and an understanding of equality of opportunity for underrepresented groups in Higher Education is desirable.
