Job Purpose

As we continue to grow and expand, BPP’s School of Technology is recruiting for an Instructional Designer to create compelling and engaging course content across our complete portfolio of programmes. Working closely with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), and applying tested instructional design theories, practices and measures, you will be responsible for producing high quality learning content, for both taught sessions and self-directed learning, enabling our diverse learner population to acquire new skills and knowledge in a way that makes learning enjoyable and interactive.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create engaging learning activities and compelling course content that enhances the learning experience across our full range of modules, topics and programmes
  • Working closely with SMEs, you will take complex concepts and break them down into easy to digest learning segments, suitable for digital learning
  • Establishing a consistent approach to learning so all of our content looks and feels like a ‘BPP' programme/module/topic
  • Ensure that a modular approach to development is embedded into all ID work so that content can be easily leveraged in multiple different manners
  • Update and amend existing learning content so it remains up to date, relevant and engaging – taking into account any new developments in learning technology
  • Ensure our Virtual Learning Environment is kept up to date and content is uploaded on a timely basis, well in advance of the course/programme beginning
  • Keep up-to-date with digital design technologies, theories and practices and ensure these are embedded in content creation so our content always remains market leading
  • Drive continuous improvement through self and peer review of learning content, identifying areas for improvement and enhancement
  • Maintain knowledge of the Schools programme and short course portfolio to lead and execute continuous development and improvements of learning content.

Candidate Criteria


  • Proven working experience in instructional design with instructional technology
  • Excellent knowledge of learning theories and instructional design models
  • Lesson and curriculum planning
  • Solid knowledge of course development software ;
  • Experience of using authoring and AV tools to create online learning resources (QUARK an advantage);
  • Visual design skills and ability to storyboard;
  • Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio/video scripts;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Excellent presentation skills;
  • The ability to plan, organise and prioritise workload;
  • The ability to work well in a team and be collaborative;
  • Creativity – having an eye to apply design skills to different learning styles and needs
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Digital literacy;
  • Self-motivation
  • A willingness to learn other learning design packages


  • Qualification to degree level in multimedia or related design
  • Project Management Qualification
  • Working in Higher Education or Apprenticeship Training
  • Awareness of SCORM standards
  • Articulate experience (storyline and rise)
