The University of Cyprus (UCY) high-energy physics group has one available position for a Postdoctoral Researcher to work on the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC. The UCY CMS group consists of three faculty members, two postdoctoral fellows and seven graduate students, with major involvements in physics as well as HCAL and trigger software upgrades and development. The group is currently leading multiple analyses for BSM physics on the LHC Run-2 dataset in a variety of leptonic and hadronic final states and event topologies, and is involved in the development of lepton and top tagging algorithms with machine learning techniques, as well as development of reconstruction algorithms for HCAL for the LHC Run-3.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will be expected to play a leading role in group’s activities in the analysis of LHC Run-2 dataset as well as preparation for the upcoming Run-3, according to candidate’s interests and experience.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in experimental high-energy physics or a related field by appointment start date, and possess strong data analysis and software development skills.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This will be a 2 year full time employment. The annual gross salary equals to €27,469.97 (€2,289.16 per month), from which amount employee contributions will be deducted. There is no provision for 13th salary. The position is funded through UCY research grants. The start date is January 24, 2022 (or as soon as possible thereafter) until January 23, 2024. The successful candidate is expected to be initially based in Cyprus with frequent visits to CERN, although there is also flexibility for CERN to be the primary employment location, subject to specific arrangements.
