Job Description

We are looking to appoint a full-time Programme Director for the SHAPES (Science, Health and Policy-relevant Ethics in Singapore) Programme at the Centre for Biomedical Ethics (CBmE), Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS).

The CBmE was established in September 2006 in the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine through a generous gift by the Chen Su Lan Trust.  We work to develop understanding, capacity for good judgement, and sound ethical practice in the context of healthcare provision, biomedical science, and health-related policy development.  CBmE is a thriving centre for learning, teaching and research relating to ethical and legal aspects of healthcare and biomedical sciences.  We study issues of broad international significance with a particular interest in learning for and from Singapore and Asia and work collaboratively with academic colleagues across and beyond NUS, and with key stakeholders in the healthcare sector and biomedical science and policy communities.  You can find out more about CBmE here: https://medicine.nus.edu.sg/cbme/

Programme

The SHAPES programme is funded by National Medical Research Council, Singapore as part of the RIE2025 Health and Human Potential domain.  Key objectives of SHAPES are to:

  • Build bioethics capability that supports and facilitates research excellence;
  • Work with other enablers to support development and implementation of policy related to the ethical conduct, governance, and translation of clinical research; and
  • Develop scholarship and thought leadership related to innovative technologies and therapies.

The programme aims to achieve these goals in three broad thematic areas, that include: clinical trials and research ethics, artificial intelligence and trust technologies and the ethics of clinical innovations (e.g. regenerative medicine and neuroethics).  The successful candidate will take overall responsibility for the management of the programme, lead initiatives in his/her areas of interest and expertise and work closely with other theme leads and the Centre Director in achieving programme goals.
