The School of Computing Technologies at RMIT University is seeking a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer to join the Discipline of Data Science. We are looking for a candidate who will bring a breadth of experience in teaching within undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Data Science, including online and blended delivery. As a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer, you will teach into courses such as databases, data science fundamentals including data pre-processing, data mining and data visualisation.

About the position:

  • 1 x full time, fixed term (2 years) Lecturer/Senior Lecturer within the School of Computing Technologies
  • Renumeration at Academic Level B ($100,465 - $119,304) or C ($123,070 - $141,912) + 17% Super
  • This role is based at the CBD Melbourne Campus

As the Lecturer/Senior Lecturer, you will make a significant contribution to the teaching of programs at undergraduate, Masters and Graduate Diploma and actively promote these programs by maintaining and developing links with academic, industry and RMIT communities. Your role will invole uplifting student-centred learning experience by designing and moderating assessment, implementing improvements by course evaluation and student feedback and engaging in the growth of the discipline aligned with the School and College's strategy.

About You

To be successful for Lecturer - level B position, you will have:

  • Ability to prepare and deliver programs at undergraduate and post-graduate levels, including online delivery, ability to produce high quality curriculum, program materials including course coordination
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to negotiate sensitively with students especially on issues related to effective project-based and work-integrated learning
  • Emerging track record and recognition for relevant high-quality research outputs, or innovative development and impactful problem-solving through the application of data science techniques in industry
  • Ability to supervise higher degree by research candidates and/or manage teams performing complex Data Science projects for external clients
  • Ability to build effective networks and generate alternative funding and/or industry projects through effective liaison with industry, government and RMIT colleagues

In addition to the above, to be successful for Senior Lecturer - level C position, you will have:

  • Ability to coordinate large courses
  • Ability to innovate student-centred learning
  • Ability to manage a large program or a number of small programs
  • Emerging nationally recognised research track record including substantial record of research outputs in high quality outlets, or innovative development and problem-solving with demonstrated impact through the application of data science techniques in industry
  • Previous experience in research leadership with the ability to build collaborative research teams, mentor staff to deliver high quality outcomes, attract and develop external partnerships and management of funded projects including complex budgets and reporting
  • Understanding of financial, governance and quality management systems within a university
  • Strong negotiating skills including the ability to consult with senior executives, external bodies, produce executive reports, negotiate agreed directions, outcomes and targets within a collaborative environment

Qualifications

For level B and C appointments:

  • Mandatory: PhD or equivalent in relevant field
  • Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children check
