You will join us at a time where we are growing our chemistry and chemical engineering undergraduate teaching in new laboratories. You will join a team providing technical support to facilitate the smooth operation of these laboratories. This typically includes maintaining laboratory infrastructure, servicing equipment and managing chemical stock as well as technical support to teaching, outreach and external visitors. The role also comprises assisting the laboratory managers in education and administrative tasks. You will work as part of the team ensuring the laboratories are ready for teaching Chemistry and Chemical Engineering undergraduates on a daily basis, as well as supporting occasional outreach activities such as going into local schools to talk about Chemistry.

To be successful you will have an NVQ2, GCSE or City and Guilds in Chemistry or associated discipline and experience of using standard IT packages and a good understanding of the health and safety requirement of working in this type of environment. A good understanding of the processes and apparatus used in laboratories is also essential.

The School of Chemistry at Southampton has a national and international reputation for excellence. You will be based in the teaching laboratories on the Highfield campus. Our chemistry laboratories recently underwent a £12 million refurbishment programme including significant investment in new teaching lab facilities, equipment and IT that you will help to run. We are also establishing chemical engineering laboratory facilities to come online in early 2022.
