A postdoctoral research position running until 6th September 2022, is available in the laboratory of Dr. Brian Stramer at King’s College London. The project will be carried out in collaboration with members of the Cell Motility and Cytoskeleton Group of the Randall Centre for Cell and Molecular Biophysics. This interdisciplinary project aims to investigate the regulation of cell migration and extracellular matrix formation during embryogenesis by exploiting the embryonic dispersal of Drosophila macrophages. The post holder will use a combination of advanced imaging techniques and Drosophila genetics to test the molecular signals underlying these processes along with their functions during embryonic development. The successful candidate will have a PhD in Life Sciences and have strong experience with Drosophila genetics and the cell biology of the cytoskeleton.

This is a full-time post - 100% full time equivalent
- To co-ordinate and drive a research project investigating the role of macrophage migration and ECM formation during embryogenesis in Drosophila.
- The candidate will plan and carry out experimental work, devise strategies for further development and advancement of the project, and s/he will be involved in compiling the data, and writing manuscripts.
- To contribute to the overall scientific endeavour of the research team and to take responsibility for areas of several of the current projects.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties that may be relevant to the role outline.
- Participate in maintenance of Drosophila stocks
The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.

Please note that this is a PhD level role but candidates who have submitted their thesis and are awaiting award of their PhDs will be considered. In these circumstances the appointment will be made at Grade 5, spine point 30 with the title of Research Assistant. Upon confirmation of the award of the PhD, the job title will become Research Associate and the salary will increase to Grade 6.
