Full time and permanent post, 35 hours per week

The School of Computing, Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of the West of Scotland offers a broad range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in engineering, physical sciences, and computing, and has a number of active research programmes in these areas.  It is an internationally recognised multidisciplinary academic centre and the winner of the Times Higher Education’s Knowledge Exchange/Transfer Initiative of the Year, 2020. 

We are presently inviting applications for the post of Senior Technician – Institute of Thin Films, Sensors & Imaging (TFSI), which will primarily provide technical support to TFSI whilst working across the School as required. The role is a full-time permanent position located on the Paisley Campus. 

The successful applicant will be responsible for the provision of technical support ensuring effective and efficient operation of various manufacturing processes including vacuum deposition and laboratory operations including project management to achieve business and commercial related goals.  The post holder will be required to work closely with academic and research staff and will be required to supervise & support external contractors and train post graduate staff and student members.

The post holder will also have budgetary control for small projects and student work as directed by the Director of the Institute of Thin Films Sensors and Imaging.

Applicants will be educated to degree level in Physics or Electronic/Electrical Engineering or with equivalent industrial experience.  It is preferred that you have specific process and characterisation experience in vacuum deposition of semiconductor, optical and engineering thin films.
