The Department of English Studies, University of Cyprus, announces one part-time position:

  • Special Scientist (Qualitative Data Collection and Analysis)

The selected candidate will work as a Special Scientist (Qualitative Data Collection and Analysis) on the UCY internally funded project MIGDISCY.

QUALIFICATIONS

The candidate is expected to be a highly-motivated individual with proven capability to work in a demanding, multi-disciplinary research environment and eager to be actively engaged in the demanding activities of European projects, and collaborating efficiently with the MIGDISCY project research team. Minimal requirements include:

  1. BA Degree in (Applied) Linguistics, Corpus Linguistics, Education or a closely related field of study.
  2. Strong and effective communicator, both written and verbal, with excellent interpersonal skills.
  3. Proficient computer skills using MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet.
  4. Ability to work independently, as well as maintain a positive working relationship with the research team.
  5. Ability to perform multiple tasks under tight deadlines without sacrificing quality or accuracy.
  6. Strong attention to detail and follow-through.
  7. Very good knowledge of English and Greek.
  8. MA and/or PhD Degree in the relevant field will be considered an advantage.
  9. Additional qualifications in corpus linguistics, corpus-based research, quantitative and qualitative data analysis, mixed-methods, corpus linguistics tools (e.g. The Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count tool (LIWC), tagging and coding deemed as a plus.
  10. Additional skills: experience in statistical analysis (SPSS, R).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will work on corpus data analysis, tagging, coding, using corpus linguistics tools and methodology for the project MIGDISCY which is under the Department of English studies.

EMPLOYMENT TERMS

The employment duration is set for a total of twelve (12) months. The hourly gross salary is in the range of €10 for BA holders, €15 for MA holders and €20 for PhD holders, depending on the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and specific duties. From this amount employee contributions shall be deducted. There is no provision for the 13th salary. Cyprus citizenship is not a requirement, but he/she must reside in Cyprus during their employment period.
